Brett Wessler, Staff Writer   |   Updated: July 30, 2012

Corn condition going into this week is pretty much the same as it was last week, with less-than-anticipated rain failing to turn the crop around at a critical time.

Twenty-four percent of the U.S. corn crop is rated "good" or "excellent," compared to 26 percent the previous week, according to the "Crop Progress" report released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Corn Condition  Very Poor    Poor    Fair    Good    Excellent
This week 23 25 28 21 3
Previous week 21 24 29 23 3
Previous year 5 9 24 46 16

Soybeans are faring only slightly better. Twenty-nine percent of the crop is in "good" or "excellent" condition.

This Week 15 22 34 26 3
Previous Week 13 22 34 27 4

Some analysts consider this summer’s conditions to be the worst in 56 years.
